Here are - 5 Clever Hacks for Plastic bottles in the garden.
1 - Deep Water System.π§ π¦
Start by cutting off the bottom of a plastic bottle then drill holes into either the cap or neck of the bottle. Bury the bottle upside down close to a plant. The holes lie about four or 10 cm below the surface which makes deep watering so much easier because all you have to do is fill the bottle then move on to the next plant and it's a watering drive-thru by the time you're done and you can always go back up again to get a really good drenching.
Especially love this technique around greedy season crops like tomatoes, cumbers, Courgettes AKA Zucchini, Squash and More.
You can also slow down the rate at which the water drains through by not drilling holes into the bottle and instead stopping a tight-fitting piece of sponge into the neck of the bottle.
2 - Miniature Greenhouse
Bottles make fantastic miniature greenhouses to keep recently transplant seedlings safe from temperatures, harsh winds and pests. leave the lid off for Air.
Cut the bottom of the plastic bottle, pop them over baby plants to keep them protected from slugs snails and the elements whilst they they grow into sturdier plants. Make sure to take the bottle cap off for aeration
3 - Homemade Scoop.
You can make very effective tools using sturdy plastic bottles use a bottle with a handle such as a milk bottle to make an all purpose scoop. Mark out a diagonal line on both sides of the bottle so that the top comes within about an inch or 3 cm of the handle draw a line to connect up the two diagonal lines one of the top and then one along the bottom like this and then simply cut it out and there you have your scoop.
4 - Fruit picker.
You can also cause the bottom of a bottle like this then mount it securely onto a cable pole the result is a very basic but no less effective fruit picker ideal for extending your reach close high up fruits.
5 - Plant Pot.
Cut the top off the plastic bottle and discard. Poke holes in the bottom of the plastic bottle for drainage. Fill with your own compost or or shop bought compost and so your favourite seeds keep them watered and watch your plants grow. You can plant vegetables, herbs on your windowsill if your limited for space so everybody can grow something.
