Belindas Back Yard Gardening - Cucumbers

Hello and welcome to Belindas Back Yard Gardening where begginers and expert's are welcome. 🏡️πŸ₯’πŸŒΌπŸŒΏπŸŒ»πŸ…πŸŒΈπŸ¦‹πŸŒπŸŒ±

Cucumber Plant.
The Cucumber is a widely-cultivated creeping vine plant in the Gourd family that bears Cucumber fruits, which are used as vegetables. Considered an annual plant, there are three main varieties of cucumber slicing, pickling, and burpless/seedless within which several cultivars have been created.

As I have a small back yard garden space, I didn't think that I would be able to grow Cucumbers, until I found out about Vertically Growing where you use a trellis for the vine to grow up instead of out as the Cucumber plant's take up a lot of valuable space.

Cucumbers are full of water and they need a deep water once every 2 days or once a day when the soil is getting too dry. You can tell by popping your finger into the top of the soil and If it's wet you don't have to water. Over watering is as bad as underwatering. So check your plants first.

They like to be spaced 2-3 in a large pot. I use bamboo cane's and garden jute that you tie to the top of the bamboo and as the plants grow you gently wind the plant up it also the Cucumbers Tendrils which are a part of the plant that looks for somewhere to hang on gently put them where you want them to hang on your trellis and keep doing as the plants grow.

Pests.
Powdery mildew is one of the many pests we encounter growing your own organic food.
Blast them off making it difficult for them to re establish and if you get an infestation you can use neem oil and and washing up liquid with a couple of drops of peppermint into a spray bottle or container and spray both upper leaves and also so make sure the bottom leaves are saturated along with the stems and soil this is the best organic remedy for most plants .

I am growing different varieties using the Verticle Growing System that is so simple to do.

I'm looking forward to harvesting them and pickling some along with eating them fresh and they taste so much better than shop bought Cucumbers.
