Who doesn't like the beautiful Poppy flower?
There are many different varieties of Poppy and this year I have been growing some different different varieties. π₯π₯π₯
They are very easy to grow, just put the seeds in a garden pot or in a space in your garden and water. π¦
Pests: Look out in the evenings for snails and slugs when seedlings are small, check in dark, damp, shady places where they can hang out in the daytime, they love wet, damp weather.
I keep a plastic bottle from my 5 Tips on how to re use plastic bottle's post to keep baby seedlings safe. Also I recomend using Copper Tape to pop around the top of pots, it gives a small electrical charge to slugs and snails and they retreat, I have used other method's for slugs and snails however I have found this to be the most effective, also using used washed and dried up egg shells crushed up around your plants help as they are soft bodied insects and they don't like jagged edges and don't crawl over them as the egg shells would cut there sofs body.
I am growing Papaver Somniferum and some other varieties.
I love the beautiful deep Red flower's they produce, also some of the garden Poppy varieties are pink and there bulb's once they flower are different shapes.
I planted some Poppy seeds once the last frost was over in well prepared soil using my own soil mix. I then planted some more two weeks after so I will get a continuous bloom throughout the summer.
Are you growing Poppy's?
